Testing-as-a-Service: Its Types and Core Benefits
Bangalore: Software testing in the recent past has changed significantly. This impacted the way products are being tested. Testing no longer validates whether the software behaves as expected but also it ensures that the product work on various platforms and devices.
Testing-as-a-Service or TaaS is widely used and it is a popular terminology across the testing industry. ‘Any testing activities done by a vendor for a client can be referred to as Testing-as-a-Service.’ The popularity of this testing has lead to its availability in various versions across the industry.
Types of TaaS
Functional Testing-as-a-Service:- FTaaS enable software testing companies to conduct integration and regression testing apart from testing the system. It brings down the cost of regression testing, reduces system outages and also increases test coverage.
Performance Testing-as-a-Service:- Applications are tested to check if they can withstand the load and stress when there are many users accessing the application at the same time. PTaaS is a “pay-as-you-go” method for such tests.
Security Testing-as-a-Service:- With an increasing number of websites and applications obtaining critical information such as credit card or account number, the security for such information is of utmost importance. STaaS scans the websites and the applications for any vulnerability.
G. H. Roa, in his article “TaaS: The new realm of software testing” mentioned 3 core benefits of TaaS.
1. Achieving Depth and Coverage
TaaS ensures flexibility in offerings. This enables clients to plan and allocate budget for higher depth and coverage. Using TaaS, lower priority testing such as compatibility testing can be addressed.
2. Quicker Time to Market
Standardized testing processes and the availability of additional resources enhances quality and reduces the time to market.
3. Flexibility and Freedom
TaaS allow testers to conduct performance tests at a higher load and they can also verify that the application is compatible on various platforms and devices.
