Stress: A Unique Way to Test System Failure
The system fails when there is a huge unexpected load and to avoid the same, stress testing will be done to determine the capacity of a device or system to uphold the effectiveness of delivering load to an extent.
Stress Test is all about determining how much stress a system or network can undertake during the unfavorable conditions through creating an adverse environment deliberately and attempting to overcome the same.
Executing the Stress Test:
Stress test can be held either by operating all the applications at a time in a single system or through infecting it with viruses or other malware. Also, dumping too many useless or spam mails into server will help in identifying the stress level. Alternatively stress test can also be carried out through load test which also involves unexpected bursts of additional activity.
Stress tests can be done in two ways as shown in the diagram. It can be done through either burst type activity or with gradual ramp-up, in order to make sure that the system will not undergo a terrible failure due to overload as mentioned in loadtest.com.

Though stress test seems to be prolonged process, it will spot out how better and quickly a system can overcome the adverse situation and avoids system failure to a greater extent.
