Microsoft Releases Its First Update for Visual Studio 2012

Bangalore: Microsoft recently released its first update for the Microsoft's Visual Studio 2012 which will allow developers to create Windows XP applications as well as to test them.

Microsoft also informed that it will be releasing regular updates for the Microsoft Visual Studio to keep up with the various trends in the software development industry. The previous version of the tool was launched this year in September and Microsoft plans to upgrade it at shorter intervals informed S. Somasegar, in a blog post on The new update includes features such as Windows development, continuous quality, agile teams and SharePoint development.

With the new features, C++ applications for Windows XP can be written using Visual Studio 2012. The update also included code analysis to help improve the quality of Windows Phone 8 Applications as well as better diagnostic and testing for applications in the Windows Store.

SharePoint developers can better load test their applications by simulating the load and the various network conditions.  

With regards to agile development, Microsoft also provided a new feature to enable developers to manage agile development processes. It added a new range of project tracking options as well as usability improvements which will allow developers to better manage projects by using the web-based interface for Team Foundation Server.

Apart from the above features, the new update also included a new feature called Code Map which will allow developers “to dynamically build views of relevant areas of a code base in order to understand and navigate its relationships quickly.”

The new update for Microsoft Visual Studio focuses on continuous quality. “This spans testing at all levels, from the management of tests to their execution,” Somasegar said.  The Microsoft Test Manager has also been improved which will allow developers to replay tests that they have recorded on other browsers.
Brian Harry MS, Product Unit Manager for Team Foundation, in a blog post informed that Microsoft is planning for their next update. “Right now we’re thinking it will be late January but we’ll know more after the first of the year. “
