More than a decade ago Offshoring was introduced in software quality testing industry. But in last 10 years, the necessity to outsource has increased exponentially along with the number of offshore companies that provides high quality testing solutions. Plenty of medium and small level companies are relying on offshore teams to test their products.

The probable grounds for outsourcing for business owners are:

1. To reduce software testing costs and increase profits, testing of offshore outsourcing software is a proven and successful solution.
2. To increase the revenue by giving business owners an opportunity to stay ahead of their competitors, and develop more projects as their direct costs are lower than those who do not use the advantages of outsourcing services.

These days, it is not only about reporting functional defects in software and also about focusing on adding value to business and software development life cycle - inducing creativity to deliver quality. Earlier, it was more of a structured or documented approach; but now the pendulum has swung in the Agile direction i.e., projects based on the Agile model form the majority when compared to the ones based on other software models. Day-to-day strategies and test methods have been implemented on ongoing as well as new projects.

Prologue of quicker communication media, like Team Viewer, Skype and other instant messengers, has come as an added bonus to the offshore industry to keep in constant touch with their onsite managers and clients. Rate of productivity, along with quality, has unfalteringly increased in recent times.

What, When & How?

The future of offshore and outsourced software quality testing will be more inclined towards automated testing. Automated testing creates a big difference in any large project, as it cuts down manpower, conserves time and helps in maintaining quality. To survive cut--throat competition, offshore software testing companies will have to incline towards high end technology with highly skilled and certified professionals. In today's business environment where expectations are high, companies must follow aggressive software testing models to lead in market. Nowadays, there is demand for talented and smart engineers, who can think out of the box and apply their own scenarios while testing a product, keeping the time constraint in mind.

Nearshoring is a new concept has been practiced by the adjacent countries of US and UK, which means hiring skilled professionals from these countries on a higher rate than the industries in Asian market as this concept has not gained much attention because of higher rates and lesser number of skilled professionals.

Offshore and outsourced testing has a glinting future, but one should remember, "Cheaper isn't always better." At the end of the day, it is all about returns, and to gain profit, one should know how to save. Independent offshore testing services around the world help product based companies save a hefty amount of money. Gartner Research is a World's foremost information technology research and advisory company has analyzed that outsourcing of software quality testing will be increased in future as companies have started understanding that such services are valuable chattels for cost reduction and maintaining overall quality.

1: My prediction is that American companies will figure out that Indian testers are lazy, uncommitted and that since one mediocre American tester is worth three in India, the testing will be brought back just the way they've quietly brought technical support back to the U.S.

2: Very nice post. I completely agree with you and agree that future of outsourced software testing is bright. Software Quality Assurance remains one of the key areas and people do understand the importance and benifits of outsourced software testing. Having an independent software testing partner is always a better option.
