Currently working at
As a Practice Director with Wipro's Enterprise Mobility Practice, we help our customers realize the benefits mobile technology has to offer by enabling their back-end systems such as SAP,SFDC etc work on mobile devices. This involves analyzing their needs and making suitable recommendations
Current and Previous Responsibilities
Main responsibilities are achieving business goals (measured by revenue target, new accounts added, successful delivery, new solutions created, number of seminars conducted etc.). This is different from my previous delivery role where it was more of executing projects and programs successfully
Tech trends to watch out for
While I do not pursue a career n QA/Testing, Testing is an important part of the development process. The trends are more towards Agile testing with test automation, design-for-testability etc. As far as mobile solutions are concerned, testing also includes User-experience testing , performace etc
Most Important Decisions
Start your career in either a very small company with a direct reporting to senior execs or start with a company that has good learning opportunities.
Keeping an open mind and not getting carried away by designations helps gain lateral skills and a wider perspective.
The Journey So Far
Staring as an Industrial Automation Engineer with Philips, gained skills on thier JD Edwards/AS-400 system. Made a switch to LG Soft based on these As-400 skills, made a lateral shift to mobile handset applications within LG. Joined Philips Again, then Ness, transferred to Ness USA, finally Wipro US
Mr E Sreedharan - India's "Metro Man" has been an inspiration of someone who could make a large project successful in a system know to be impossible to work with. He set high standards and made the system work for him
A Fine Balance:
Stress is self-induced : learn the art of saying no, negotiating and prioritising. Learning to let go, esp the need to "control" not only helps develop people, but keeps workload manageable. Switch off the blackberry after 9:00pm.
